The Parks and Recreation Master Plan is used to guide City Council and staff in the strategic management and decision-making process relative to the provision and sustainability of parks and recreation facilities, programming, and services for the City.
The Cats Indoors Program is a campaign that encourages cat owners to keep their pets inside, where they are safe from outdoor dangers and can't harm local wildlife. This initiative is vital for protecting birds and other small animals, as outdoor cats are one of the biggest threats to their survival.
Now, we know what you're thinking: "But my cat loves going outside! How can I possibly keep them indoors all the time?" Trust us, we get it. As cat owners ourselves, we know how much our furry friends enjoy exploring the great outdoors. But the truth is, there are plenty of ways to keep your cat entertained and happy while indoors.
Invest in some fun cat toys, build them a cozy cat tree, or even create an indoor "adventure zone" for them to explore. Trust us, your cat will be just as happy inside as they are outside. Indoor-outdoor spaces like covered porches, patios or "catios" are also another great option for cats to get some fresh air in a controlled space.
Plus, by keeping your cat indoors, you're doing your part to protect our feathered friends. Did you know that outdoor cats kill approximately 2.4 billion birds each year in the U.S. alone? It's true - cat predation is the largest source of human-caused mortality to birds! By keeping your cat inside, you're helping to prevent unnecessary deaths and preserve the natural balance of our ecosystem.
So what are you waiting for? Join the Cats Indoors Program today and help us protect our birds! Your cat (and our feathered friends) will thank you for it.
